How to Manage Your Availability for Work
Managing your availability for work is part of your responsibility as an employee.
Managing your availability
Do you have a family holiday planned, or exams coming up, maybe you need to take a week off for camp? Your employer needs to know about all these things.
Managing your availability for work is part of your responsibility, some of the things that you need to think about when you are working out your availability are:
- Family Holidays
- Religious or Cultural celebrations
- Exams
- School Camp
- Sporting events or tournaments
- Any other family or personal commitment you have.
The more notice you can give your employer, the better. Check with your supervisor on the frequency of the rostering and make sure that you communicate about any days or times when you cannot work.
Also, make sure you find out the best way you inform your employer of the dates you're not available – do they use a rostering system, or have it written on a whiteboard? make sure you know how to communicate it.
To keep track of your schedule you can use a calendar, diary or planner. There are a lot of technology tools you can use like your phone calendar, reminder or scheduling apps. Block out specific times for work, personal activities, and any other commitments. This visual representation helps you see your availability clearly and quickly.
