• Who can apply?
  High school students looking to complete work experience during Term 4, 2026. Your school must approve the final placement.
• How do I apply?
  You must apply through the My First Job platform for the Marriott International Work Experience Opportunity in your region. This opportunity is exclusively available through My First Job.
• Can I contact or apply directly to one of the hotels?
  No. Please do not contact participating hotels directly about this opportunity. My First Job is coordinating applications and student matching with each hotel.
• Do I need hospitality experience?
  No. Work experience is about learning, exploring and getting a taste of what the workplace is actually like.
• Do I need to know which department I want?
  No. If you already know what interests you, tell us. If you’re not sure, that’s completely fine too. Part of the experience is discovering the different opportunities available within hotels.
• Can I choose my hotel or department?
  You can tell us your preferences and we’ll consider these when looking for a match. Particular hotels, departments and dates cannot be guaranteed.
• Can I choose my work experience week?
  We’ll ask which week or weeks you’re available and try to match these with hotel availability. Your preferred dates cannot be guaranteed.
• How long is the placement?
  A five-day Monday to Friday placement is preferred where possible, but the final arrangement will depend on your school’s requirements and what the hotel can accommodate.
• Is the work experience paid?
  No. This is school work experience, not employment.
• Does applying guarantee a placement?
  No. Placements depend on student suitability, hotel availability, school approval and completion of the required work experience documentation.
• What will I actually do?
  Every placement will be different depending on the hotel and department. The aim is to give you an engaging experience and opportunities to get involved, rather than simply observe. Activities will depend on your age, the department and the requirements of your work experience placement.
• Could it lead to a job?
  Potentially, but employment is not guaranteed. Some participating hotels may have junior roles, apprenticeships or future opportunities. If you’re interested in working during or after school, let My First Job know.
• Who organises the work experience paperwork?
  My First Job will coordinate the required work experience documentation between the hotel and your school. Your school must approve the placement and all required documentation must be completed before you start.
• Why do I need to attend a meet and greet?
  The meet and greet helps you prepare before your first day. You’ll get to practise travelling to the hotel, know where to go and who to ask for, meet someone from the team and find out what to wear and what to expect. It also gives the hotel an opportunity to get to know you and understand what you’d like to get from your work experience.
• What if I need additional support?
  Let My First Job know when we ask for more information about you. We can consider this when looking for a suitable placement and, where appropriate, help the hotel prepare to support you during your experience.
• How do I get to the hotel?
  Students and families are responsible for transport to and from the hotel each day. We recommend considering travel time and transport options before accepting a placement.
• What should I wear?
  This will depend on your hotel and department. You’ll be given information about what to wear, where to go and who to meet before your placement starts.
• For parents, carers and schools
  My First Job coordinates the matching process directly with participating Marriott International hotels and the student’s school. The student’s school retains its usual role in approving the work experience placement and ensuring its work experience requirements are met. All required documentation must be completed before the placement can begin.
