You've got the job, what next?

First off, congratulations! Landing your first job is a huge deal, and you should be super proud of yourself.

Now that you’ve got the great news, it’s time to figure out your next steps. If you're sitting there wondering, Should I reply now? What should I say? Is it too soon? Is it too late?- don’t worry, we’ve got you.

Step 1: Reply Now

It’s totally fine to reply as soon as you see the message or email. In fact, it’s a great way to show you’re excited and responsible. Don’t overthink it- your new employer just wants to hear from you so they can plan the next steps.

Here’s Some Ideas of What You Could Say:

If it’s an email:

Hi [Hiring Manager’s Name],

Thank you so much for offering me the [Job Title] position at [Company Name]. I’m really excited to start! Please let me know the next steps, and I’d be happy to provide any info you need.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

[Your Name]

If it’s a phone call:

  • Start with a thank-you: “Thank you so much for the opportunity!”
  • Be clear: “I just wanted to confirm I’m really excited to accept the position. Can you let me know the next steps or what you need from me?”

If it’s a text:

Hi [Hiring Manager’s Name],

Thank you so much for letting me know I got the job! I’m really excited to start. Please let me know what I need to do next, and I’ll get onto it straight away.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

[Your Name]

Step 2: Celebrate!

You’ve taken the first step into the working world, and that’s no small thing. Share the news with someone you trust (like a friend, parent, or mentor) they’ll be just as excited as you are!

Step 3: Be Prepared for Next Steps

Your new employer will need some details from you to complete your onboarding process. They will likely ask you for personal details, bank account details, superannuation accounts, Tax File Number (TFN), and more.
