Woolworths Application – What Happens Next

What Happens After You Apply? Once you’ve applied for a Woolworths job, the process moves fast. This guide breaks down each step and helps you prepare with practical tips and key information.

Woolworths Application – What Happens Next

Once you have submitted your Woolworths job application, things move quickly. Make sure you regularly check your email (and junk or spam folder) so you don’t miss any updates.

Step 1: Online Interviews (Chat and Video)

Woolworths uses two short online interviews to get to know you:

  • Step 1A: Chat Interview (written answers) sent about 5–10 minutes after you apply. You have 48 hours to complete it.
  • Step 1B: Video Interview (recorded answers) sent if you progress, often within a few hours of finishing the chat.

Both interviews are designed to learn more about you, your motivations, and how you’d fit into the team.

How to Prepare

Expect questions around:

  • Who you are and why you’re interested in the role
  • Share your goals, reasons for wanting to work, and why Woolworths appeals to you. Research their values and think about how they match yours.
  • Customer service
  • Explain what great service means to you. Think of a time you felt looked after or helped someone. The STAR Method for Interviews is a great way to structure your answer.
  • Teamwork
  • Draw on examples from school projects, sport, volunteering, or work to show you collaborate well. Use the STAR Method for Interviews.
  • Availability and commitments
  • Be realistic but flexible. Think about times you can work outside of school hours and other set commitments. For seasonal jobs, it’s a great idea to mention your availability during the school holidays if this differs from school weeks. The more availability you offer, the easier it is for Woolworths to roster you. See our availability guide.
  • Why you’re a good fit
  • Show enthusiasm for Woolworths, highlight your strengths, and explain why you’d be a valuable team member.

Tips for Both Interviews

  • Write detailed answers. Even if a 50 word minimum is shown, it’s often not enough to answer well.
  • Find a quiet, well-lit space with minimal background noise.
  • Practice speaking clearly and confidently on video.
  • Dress neatly, even if you’re at home.
  • See our Preparing for Video or Online Interviews guide for more information
  • Use the final question to share something unique about yourself or your goals that relates to why you want the job or would be a good fit.

Step 2: Next Steps

After the online interviews, Woolworths will contact you by email or phone:

  • If you are successful, you will receive an email that will outline the next steps to onboard you.
  • You may be invited to a virtual or in-store interview with a store manager

  • Tax details (TFN or proof of application)
  • Superannuation details (your fund or Woolworths’ fund)

  • You’ll receive either a phone call or an email about the next steps. Some people are invited to a virtual or in-store interview, while others receive confirmation directly via email.

  • You’ll need working rights documentation, bank details, tax details, superannuation details, your signed employment agreement, and emergency contact information.
  • Onboarding is the process of getting you ready to start your new job. At Woolworths, most of your onboarding is completed online before your first shift. It includes completing important documents, setting up your employee account, learning about safety and store policies, doing some short training modules, and getting familiar with your store and team. It’s all designed to help you feel confident and prepared for your first day.
